About Muriel
Muriel Tafts works on stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, trauma and abuse, career matters and coping with life changes. She uses Client-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy to help people look at thoughts, feelings and behaviour and to identify practical steps forward. She is registered with the BACP and has four years post-qualification experience, with six years of part-time experience including placements during study.
Muriel holds a Foundation Degree in Integrated Counselling that covered person-centred, CBT and psychodynamic approaches. She has undertaken additional training in the neuroscience of ADHD and ASD, dementia, addiction, depression and psychosis, and in topics such as suicide prevention, self-harm, perfectionism and OCD. She is currently studying for an MSc in Workplace Health and Wellbeing.
In sessions she encourages curiosity about thinking, feeling and behaviour. She works collaboratively to explore root causes and to agree goals within the first three sessions. Progress is reviewed every four weeks to check what is helping and what needs adjustment.
Muriel gives practical information about psychological concepts and suggests exercises or strategies to try between sessions. This can include changes in thinking patterns, behaviour experiments or small homework tasks aimed at making everyday life more manageable.
She has experience supporting people with workplace difficulties, midlife and life-stage transitions, isolation and loneliness, attachment and abandonment concerns, guilt and shame, communication problems, money issues and questions about sexuality and self-love. Sessions are conducted in English and are based in the United Kingdom.
How Muriel uses her approaches for online counselling
Client-Centred Therapy focuses on listening and understanding the person’s experience, and aims to increase self-awareness and personal insight; it is helpful for emotional distress and relationship concerns.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) looks at links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and supports practical experiments and tasks to change unhelpful patterns; it is often used for anxiety, stress and low mood.
Psychodynamic Therapy pays attention to past patterns and early relationships to make sense of current difficulties and recurring emotions, which can be useful for attachment issues and long-standing relational problems.
Finding the right approach is part of the work. The counsellor will discuss goals, preferences and what seems most useful, and will work collaboratively to agree an approach that fits the person’s needs.
The biography does not list specific session formats, so confirm the available options before booking. Online sessions can make it easier to fit counselling around work or family commitments and reduce travel time. They also allow practical adaptations, such as shorter check-ins, sessions without video, or scheduling at times that suit a person’s routine. Registered or accredited professionals can use these options to help counselling fit into everyday life.
Sessions take place through BetterHelp by video, phone or messaging. We will earn a commission if you sign up.
