Urgent mental health help in the UK

This site is not a crisis service and nobody monitors the self-check answers. If you need help now, use one of these.

If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide

  • If your life or someone else's is at risk, or you cannot keep yourself safe, call 999 or go to A&E.
  • England: call 111 and select the mental health option.
  • Scotland: phone NHS 24 on 111 and choose the mental health option.
  • Wales: call 111 and press option 2. It is free and open 24 hours a day, for all ages.
  • Northern Ireland: call Lifeline on 0808 808 8000, free and open 24 hours every day.
  • Anywhere in the UK: call Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night, or text SHOUT to 85258.

If you are under 19, you can also call Childline free on 0800 1111.

For routes that are not urgent, such as your GP or NHS Talking Therapies, see how to get support in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
