About Rebecca
Rebecca Fahey helps people work on stress, anxiety, addiction, relationships, trauma and depression using talking therapies that centre the person. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and has five years' experience in clinical and residential settings.
She uses an integrative approach that draws on client-centred work, cognitive behavioural techniques, dialectical behaviour ideas, psychodynamic thinking and solution-focused tools. In practice this means she listens to what matters to the person first, then uses different ways of working that fit the issue and the person’s preferences.
Rebecca has worked one-to-one and in groups. She has provided therapy in a residential service for people affected by substance and alcohol misuse, and she has supported people who have experienced trauma and abuse. She has also worked in a secure psychiatric hospital supporting people with long-term mental health problems including bipolar disorder, psychosis, personality disorders and self-harming behaviours.
Her training includes a Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Integrative Counselling, a Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and certificates for working with people affected by addiction. She follows the BACP Ethical Framework for Practice.
Sessions focus on clear steps people can use between meetings, such as practical coping strategies, communication skills and reflection on patterns that maintain difficulties. Rebecca aims to help people notice small changes that make daily life easier and more manageable.
How Rebecca uses common approaches in online counselling
Rebecca blends client-centred work with cognitive behavioural ideas to help people tackle current problems. Client-centred therapy focuses on listening and reflecting what matters to the person, which helps bring clarity about feelings and goals. CBT offers practical steps and experiments to change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, useful for anxiety, low mood and sleep difficulties.
She also draws on dialectical behaviour therapy techniques to teach emotional regulation and distress-tolerance skills. DBT-based skills can be helpful for people managing strong emotions, relationship problems and self-harming behaviours. Rebecca will discuss which approaches fit best and combine methods as needed in a collaborative way with each person.
Finding the right approach is part of the work together. The counsellor will review goals, preferences and what has helped or not helped before, and then agree how to proceed. This is a shared decision so methods can change as therapy progresses.
Session formats are not specified in the biography, so check the available options before booking. Online sessions can make it easier to fit counselling around work or family life, allow shorter check-ins when needed, and remove travel time so people can access support more readily.
