About Janine
Janine Hodge helps people with stress, anxiety, relationship and parenting difficulties by blending psychotherapy with coaching. She draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and attachment-based ideas to look at how patterns and past experiences affect current feelings and behaviour. Janine is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and has seven years of clinical experience.
She trained to a CPCAB Level 5 standard and founded Courage2Be Counselling Services in 2019, now known as Courage2Be Coaching & Psychotherapy. Janine also works as a counselling lecturer and clinical supervisor, which keeps her practice connected to current teaching and reflective practice.
Her approach focuses on identifying recurring patterns and reducing the unhelpful mental noise that keeps people stuck in intrusive thought loops. Sessions look at current symptoms, the beliefs that maintain them, and how those beliefs developed. This is explained in clear terms so people can use what they learn outside sessions.
Janine often works with issues linked to attachment, abandonment and family of origin, and she also addresses ADHD, trauma, grief, anger, low self-esteem and relationship concerns. She combines ideas from solution-focused work and client-centred listening with psychodynamic and systemic perspectives to offer a flexible way of working.
Over time the work aims to help people shift long-standing patterns, build new ways of responding, and reconnect with a clearer sense of purpose. Practical exercises and reflective discussion are used alongside coaching-style planning when relevant.
Sessions are conducted in English and are delivered from the United Kingdom. International clients are not currently accepted.
Therapeutic approaches used in online work
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps people notice unhelpful thoughts without getting driven by them and focuses on values-led action; it can support anxiety, low mood and decisions about life direction. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) looks at the links between thoughts, feelings and actions and uses practical exercises to change patterns that keep problems in place; it is often useful for anxiety and depression. Attachment-Based Therapy examines past relationship patterns and how they affect current bonds and trust, which is helpful for relationship and family-related difficulties.
Choosing the right approach is part of the work. The counsellor will discuss goals, preferences and what feels most useful, and then adapt methods in collaboration with the client. This is a shared process that may draw on two or more approaches as needed.
The biography does not list specific session formats, so please confirm available options before booking. In general online sessions can make it easier to fit appointments around work, family and travel commitments. They also allow for shorter check-ins or sessions without video if that suits the person, and practical tools and exercises can be sent between meetings to support learning and change.
Sessions take place through BetterHelp by video, phone or messaging. We will earn a commission if you sign up.
